COLD WET NOSES

Does a cold, wet mean the dog is healthy?

This is not entirely true. Yes, a dogs nose is often cool and moist, but this does not necessarily indicate health.

It is possible for an ill dogs nose to feel this way, and it is possible for a healthy dog to have a dry, warm nose.

More appropriate meters of your pets health are his appetite, energy level, and overall comfort level.

If you are concerned about your dogs temperature, rather than feel his nose, it is best to use a thermometer and take the temperature rectally. Normal pet temperatures are as follows

Normal Rectal Temperature
Dog 100° to 102.5°F
Newborn Puppy96° to 100°F
Cat100° to 102.5°F
Newborn Kitten97° (at birth) to 100°F (one week of age)

Always consult your veterinarian with any questions or concerns about your pets health.

WOW, LOOK AT THIS UGLY CREATURE, This bug was found by my friend Shannon at her home last week,8/5/08. Dr. Swaney DVM,sent a picture of it to KU and we found out it is a Dobsonfly.

From Holly Davis
Insect Diagnostician,

Dear Stacie,
This insect is a female Dobsonfly. They are large and scary looking but
are fairly harmless. The females can give a good pinch if harassed,
but that's about it. They have an aquatic larval stage where they are
commonly called Hellgrammites. Once they reach adulthood, they fly
around for a few days, mate, the females lay eggs in a body of water,
and they die. They are often attracted to lights and people
occasionally find them around their porch lights or in their homes. You
think this one looks bad; look up a picture of the male!
